THE EXPERIENCE

Memories you can walk through.

A Trail of Memories is a personal interactive experience created for my best friend’s wedding. Built in Unity with C#, it turns shared photographs and videos into a journey through an enchanted forest—a place where memories can be discovered through play.

Winding paths lead to moments from childhood, college, and other milestones in our friendship. Each location gives a memory a place within the world, letting the player pause, recognize it, and move on at their own pace. The project was presented during my Best Man toast, with the groom playing on a large screen in front of family and friends.

A personal story, made playable

I created this project as an alternative way to share the story behind a wedding speech. The work brought together a forest environment, a collection interaction, and the photographs and videos that made the experience personal.

The central design challenge was to make the interaction immediately understandable in a live setting. A simple “Collect Memory” prompt lets players focus on the people and moments being remembered, while the surrounding environment gives the experience a quiet, reflective rhythm.

BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE

Design decisions

01

Let the memories lead

The media forms the emotional center of the journey. Exploration provides the connective tissue, leading players between recognizable moments without making complex objectives compete for attention.

02

Keep interaction approachable

A clear collection prompt gives the player a consistent action throughout the experience. That simplicity also helps an audience follow what is happening during a shared playthrough.

03

Design for a shared moment

The wedding presentation shaped the purpose of the project: the groom could explore while family and friends recognized the memories on screen. The result demonstrates how a small interactive experience can turn personal history into a shared event.
