Conception
Throughout the pre-production and conceptualization phases of ‘The Crypt,’ our primary goal was to preserve the timeless essence and thematic richness that defined the original experience while simultaneously infusing it with fresh, unparalleled excitement. ‘The Crypt’ was meticulously crafted from the top layer(the graveyard) down(the crypt), embracing a multifaceted and iterative approach to level design. This approach entailed a comprehensive overhaul of mechanics, a transformation of the landscape, and a meticulous layout that underwent numerous iterations until we achieved a level of quality that satisfied our exacting standards. As players delve deeper into ‘The Crypt,’ they are met with a progressively darker and more ominous atmosphere, culminating in a heart-pounding climax. Beyond the mechanics, the narrative unfolds around Ulora the Scribe, engaging players in her quest to unveil the crypt’s century-old secrets, adding a compelling layer of intrigue and mystery to the experience.
“EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW”
As the player embarks on this odyssey, they find themselves thrust into the heart of the eerie Graveyard of Ehb, a desolate realm shrouded in enigmatic mists that whisper ancient secrets from the darkest corners. Here, they chance upon Ulora the Scribe, a resident of the town of StoneBridge, whose relentless studies have led her to these hallowed grounds. With a conviction that a sinister enigma has long plagued this somber necropolis, Ulora invites the player to join her on a treacherous quest. Yet, the path ahead teems with danger and enigmatic perils.
Motivated by an unwavering commitment to uphold the noble values of Ehb, the player readily commits to assisting Ulora in her pursuit of confronting the lurking shadows that haunt the graveyard. Their alliance is swiftly put to the test as they face a sudden and harrowing ambush orchestrated by a horde of relentless skeletons. With courage and determination, the player and Ulora emerge victorious, but they are only at the threshold of their perilous journey.
Descending further into the heart of this nightmarish graveyard, they must confront a macabre menagerie of monstrous adversaries. From ravenous oversized rats that thirst for blood to colossal mummy adversaries guarding the crypt’s sanctity, and malevolent floating skulls that assail their senses, each step forward is fraught with challenges and spine-tingling suspense. Their descent eventually leads them into the crypt’s shadowy abyss, where they must traverse a gauntlet of perilous mechanics designed to test the player’s wits and skills. At every turn, they encounter stronger, more formidable adversaries, with each layer of the crypt revealing further layers of mystery.
As the player and Ulora navigate this labyrinthine crypt, they gradually unearth the haunting history and the dark secrets that have plagued the area for centuries. The journey unfolds like a captivating narrative, with every step piecing together the crypt’s enigmatic past. It culminates in a spine-tingling revelation that challenges the player to solve the enigmatic clues that have accumulated along the way, all leading to a breathtaking climax where their wit, courage, and resolve are put to the ultimate test.
In ‘The Crypt,’ a myriad of challenging mechanics awaits the player, meticulously designed to immerse them in a nightmarish graveyard and a palpable sense of horror. The harrowing journey introduces the player to a series of daunting challenges, including skull barriers suspended in the air that relentlessly exert pressure to push the player towards their doom. Additionally, they must contend with graves that, when shattered, spawn relentless waves of skeletons, adding to the spine-tingling atmosphere that envelops this crypt of terror.
The Crypt include a variety of Monsters and enemies. We made a special point to keep the design of the creatures the same as the original. A few creatures from the experience are featured below.
