THE EXPERIENCE

Step through the unknown.

CryptStalker is an independently developed action-exploration horror game. Waking from a mysterious slumber, the player enters an unsettling world whose rules and history must be discovered through exploration. A central hub connects seven elemental realms, each with its own atmosphere, enemies, and hazards.

The hub is the thread that holds the experience together. Portals lead into themed challenges, while discoveries and new abilities draw players back toward previously inaccessible parts of the world. The project is still in early development; the footage and galleries below document its evolving environments and earlier builds.

Building the nightmare

As a solo project built in Unity with C#, CryptStalker brings the game’s world design and gameplay development together under one creative direction. The work centers on connecting the hub, elemental environments, combat encounters, and progression into a coherent experience.

The intended progression makes boss rewards part of how players navigate the world. Abilities are tied to the realm where they are earned and become tools for later challenges, giving exploration a purpose beyond reaching the next fight.

BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE

Design decisions

01

Connected realms

The hub establishes a recognizable point of return while giving each portal a distinct identity. A charred region leads into a fire-dominated realm, so the environment prepares players for the threats and mechanics ahead.

02

Progression through abilities

Each realm culminates in a boss encounter. The design ties its reward to a thematic ability that opens further routes and challenges, connecting player growth with the structure of the world.

03

Atmosphere with purpose

Environmental clues, hidden lore, and changing biomes support the mystery. Their role is to help players read unfamiliar spaces while maintaining the uncertainty that gives the game its horror identity.
